The Meck Radio Show w/ Bob Nightengale - USA TODAY Baseball Writer. 12/13/06
www.TheMeck.com Posted 2:13a ct. Show Time: 27 Mins.

Meck Notes:
An interview with my friend Bob Nightengale - USA Today Baseball Writer.
Bob talks about the winter meetings in Orlando and the free agent spending for players who are not big-names.

' Big-Time Money for being mediocre free agents. Lot of GM's never seen anything like it.'
--
Meck ask Bob about the Braves letting Marcus Giles go and what's going to happen to Tim Hudson?

Everybody seems to have money except the Braves.
Why is it they are always in a crunch while everyone else has monopoly money for average players ??
' It doesn't make sense. Every club is making a killing these days.'

Bob talks about even Tampa Bay making $30 million and Minnesota's $70 million payroll.
[comparing it to the Braves $80 mil payroll.]
Plus Oakland having money to spend on Piazza - 8 Million.]
--

Doesn't Schuerholz's [ the GM] stance re not giving Players a no-trade clause hurt the Braves .. ?

Meck note: The word was John Schuerholz was planning on retiring about 4 years ago.
Turner was bought by Time Warner .. the stock fell from the mid 50's to the teens.
[ hurting everyone's retirement]
Is Schuerholz hanging on and riding his tenure into the sunset [with his non-aggressive approach] ?

Can you believe the Braves didn't even make Tom Glavine an offer ?
--

' 80 million was a nice payroll 3 or 4 years ago. Today .. it's middle of the pack or lower.'
'The Mets Payroll is 120 million. The 1st time ever the Braves payroll is 40 million less.' - Bob Nightengale
--

What have you heard about Javy Lopez and his future ?
'Piazza just signed for 8.5 million. I can't believe that Javy is worth that much less than Piazza.'

Tell us about the Japanese player [ Matsuzaka] and the negotiations with the Red Sox
[ 100 million.]

Where will Barry Zito end up ??
Rocket - Man Roger Clemens .. ?

Bob shares with us his Hall of Fame Ballot .. Tony Gwynn .. Cal Ripken .. ?
Meck and Bob talk about the one and only Tony Gwynn.

Thanks Bob for your T I M E and insight on The Meck Radio Show.

T I M E spells L O V E
Written by Eddie Carswell and Michael O'Brien
Father's Day, Mother's Day, EVERY Day...

Listen - www.TheMeck.com

T I M E spells L O V E

Throw me the ball Daddy
I've been waiting all day
I'm so glad you're home and we got some time
So Let's go out and play
Just me and you
It's my favorite thing to do
Daddy I'm tellin' the truth

Chorus
T I M E time
Spells L O V E love
And Love is the one thing
This world needs more of
The choice is up to you
So what will you do
With your T I M E Time
and your L O V E love

I'll never forget you Daddy
You taught me the game so well
It's taken me places I never dreamed
So many stories to tell
How the time has come and gone
And now I have a son of my own
And I'm making sure your memory lives on

Bridge
I've heard it said a time or two
This game of life can take from you
But I found out love isn't really love
Till you give it away
