Today is the day we have set aside to honor Megan Rondini and her family. Megan is the young University of Alabama honors student who was drugged and raped during the early morning hours of July 2, 2015, by Terry Jackson "Sweet T" Bunn, Jr. She is the hero who unites us today.
This 20-year-old rape victim fought for justice against the most corrupt law enforcement officials is Alabama. Megan's family supported her every step of the way.
Thanks to Megan Rondini, we know that Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Ron Abernathy is a "dirty" cop. We also know that former Tuscaloosa County District Attorney Lyn Head can be bought and sold for laundered campaign money from rich Crimson Tide football program boosters.
We know that Tuscaloosa County District Attorney Hays Webb is a coward as a prosecutor. We also know that Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall does not give a damn about rape victims when the rapist is a member of a rich and powerful family.
Finally, we know that The University of Alabama, when forced to choose between "good" and "evil", values institutional loyalty to the "Big Money" crowd more than its values the safety and security of its female students.
Megan gave her life to expose this sea of flaws and failings.
We are not sad today. We are thankful to Megan Rondini. We are thankful to her family.
Without Megan's sacrifices, we would be lost in the fog of official lies and infuriating deception. Now, we know what WE must do to make things right for Megan Rondini and other rape victims in Tuscaloosa, at The University of Alabama, and across the state of Alabama.
Our daughters, sisters, mothers, and women across America and around the world applaud Megan Rondini today. She was the epitome of courage under fire.
Sheriff Ron Abernathy and DA Lyn Head did everything within their power to break Megan's spirit and her will to fight for justice. They bullied and betrayed her during the worst moments of her life. They sold out Megan's right to justice as a favor to a rich family. Still, Megan fought for justice.
Even when Megan realized that Abernathy's henchmen had sided with Sweet T and were trying to make her a criminal "suspect" for accusing Sweet T of rape, she kept fighting for justice. A fearless and unselfish Megan Rondini wanted to make sure that there would be a record of her reported rape on file in the Sheriff's Department for the benefit of Sweet T's next rape victim.
Today is Megan Rondini's day. If you are a father who loves your daughter, stand with Megan today. If you are a mother who protects your daughter, stand with Megan today. If you are a UA student who wants sexual predators like Sweet T banned from campus, march in the vigil for Megan today. If you are an American who values the rule of law, stand with Megan today.
This is our time to show courage and commitment. Stand with Megan Rondini today.
We admire, respect, and love you, Megan Rondini!
