Hubbard case reeks all the way to Alabama governor's office | AL.com - John Archibald - I believe the governor and Mason do not want that trial to proceed. I believe the governor, who has long been considered a willing witness against Hubbard (after all the speaker is charged among other things with criminal lobbying of the governor) now sees the witness stand as a trap. He fears what defense lawyers will ask him. Which means he has something to hide.
