In the aftermath of the growing scandal involving Megan Rondini's "scripted" rape case and subsequent law enforcement cover up, University of Alabama President Stuart Bell issued the following "important message about sexual misconduct reporting and resources." The message was emailed to all faculty, staff, and students at 3:34 p.m. CST this afternoon. The message reads as follows:
"Dear Faculty, Staff and Students:
Each semester we share information about resources, reporting options and support available to those affected by sexual misconduct. The University offers a wealth of services, staff and other resources to any member of our campus community, outlined at https://www.ua.edu/sams.
The University encourages individuals to report any type of sexual misconduct. UAPD may be contacted by calling (205) 348-5454 or by visiting the department at 1110 Jackson Avenue. Other reporting options and contact information are available on the UAct website at www.ua.edu/uact. Confidential reporting is also available. Strictly confidential reporting and resource sources include the Women and Gender Resource Center at https://wgrc.sa.ua.edu/ and Counseling Center at https://counseling.sa.ua.edu/. A list of all confidential reporting options are available in the Sexual Misconduct Policy at http://titleix.ua.edu/sexual-misconduct-policy.html.
Also, the University's Title IX Office, located at 107 Burke Hall West, is instrumental to the University's efforts to foster a campus community free of gender discrimination and sexual violence. The Title IX Office can be contacted by calling (205) 348-5496 or by email to the University's Title IX coordinator, Beth Howard (gbhoward@ua.edu).
Please know the University takes the issue of sexual misconduct very seriously. I hope you'll take a moment to review and understand these important resources and services.
Sincerely,
Stuart R. Bell"
The University still has not called for an independent and comprehensive investigation of the Megan Rondini rape case and law enforcement cover up by the Alabama Attorney General's Office.
Megan was a UA honors student who accused 2005 UA graduate Terry Jackson "Sweet T" Bunn, Jr., of raping her at his house on the night of July 1, 2015. Sweet T acknowledged having sex with Megan, but claimed that it was "consensual". The totality of evidence suggests that Megan was the victim of a drug facilitated rape. In the process of having sexual intercourse, Sweet T infected Megan with gonorrhea.
Other women have reported similar unwanted sexual experiences with Sweet T. Yet, he has escaped prosecution on multiple occasions.
Sweet T is the son of powerful UA mega-donor Terry Jackson Bunn, Sr., co-owner of Tuscaloosa-based ST Bunn Construction Company. The University's Athletics Department uses the company's private jet, as needed. Terry Bunn, Sr., has also been a member of the University's elite President's Cabinet.
To date, the University has not banned Sweet T from campus.

Brothers of Investigator Josh Hastings Engage In Cyberbullying in Megan Rondini Rape Case
By Donald V. Watkins

Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Department investigator Josh Hastings made history when his July 6, 2015 videotaped interview of accused rapist Terry Jackson "Sweet T" Bunn, Jr., was made public in a June 22, 2017 article published by BuzzFeed News that featured the Megan Rondini rape case. Megan was the University of Alabama honors student who committed suicide after Sweet T escaped prosecution in her rape case.
The videotape showed Hastings, who was assigned to investigate Megan's rape case, openly ingratiating himself to Sweet T during the interview. Instead of conducting a hard interrogation of Sweet T about the alleged rape, Hastings emerged on videotape as an apologist for the accused.
Josh Hastings is a public official. The video in question is online and speaks for itself.
After the Bunn family released its attack ad against Megan and her family last week, Josh Hastings' two brothers – Jordan and Jerrod – went on a cyberbullying spree in which they made a series of intimidating and threatening statements to one of Megan Rondini's most vocal supporters. The woman was the victim of a rape years ago by the son of a prominent family in Tuscaloosa. The Hastings brothers' cyberbullying of her intensified after the London-based Daily Mail published a story yesterday on Megan's rape case.
At no point during their online cyberbullying, do the Hastings brothers explain, privately or publicly, why brother Josh Hastings was "sucking up" to Sweet T during his police interview. Also, the brothers do not explain Josh Hastings' failure to follow basic police work while investigating Megan's rape case. Finally, they do not explain Josh's prolific use of leading questions that suggested the answers he needed Sweet T to give in order to clear him of Megan's rape charge.
The Hastings brothers' cyberbullying constitutes an extension of the character assassination launched last week in the Bunn family's attack ad on Megan and her family. This "attack the victim" response seems to be embedded in the local culture.
I do not understand the propensity of men like Sweet T and the Hastings brothers to attack and cyberbully women. I also do not understand why Tuscaloosa law enforcement officials in positions of authority to stop cyberbullying do not reign in this type of inappropriate conduct.

Megan Rondini's Rape Case Goes Global - Donald V. Watkins -- Birmingham based attorney Donald V Watkins who has become a champion for Megan became intent on exposing what he describes as the 'corruption and cover up' at the heart of her case. He believes Bunn's family connections have made him all but 'untouchable.' Speaking to DailyMail.com, Watkins - who worked to expose the sexual and financial scandal that saw the state's governor Robert J Bentley resign in April - said: 'The odds were stacked against Megan from the start.'
