Doomed, Part II: AG Steve Marshall Opens "Dark Money" Group
Just when you thought things could not get any worse for those of us who are seeking justice for Megan Rondini, they did. We learned today that Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has started a "dark money" group to support his candidacy for election to a full term in office. Donors can contribute to his 501(c)(4) organization without disclosing their identities.
Marshall, who is former Governor Robert Bentley's handpicked attorney general, is emulating the same "dark money" approach to politics that got Bentley busted and removed from government. Obviously, "Birds of a feather flock together."
There is no need for the Bunn family to launder its campaign cash for attorney general through Mike Echols' political action committees. They can simply "buy" an attorney general using "dark money" contributions given directly to Steve Marshall's 501(c)(4) group.
Is justice "for sale" in Alabama? Yes. Is there any prosecutor in office today who will pursue Megan Rondini's rape case? Apparently not. The state's top prosecutor just made it super easy to purchase his allegiance in the dark of night, no questions asked.
