As some boomers live longer, some (like Gary Carter) taken way too soon - Palm Beach Post - Steve Dorfman - Two things stood out about him: 1) that he genuinely cared about people; 2) he had a steel trap of a memory. As I wrote at the time: "The man's memory is Google-like. Seasonal and career statistics of opponents and teammates? Check. Specific game situations from two and three decades ago? Check. Immediate and total recall of virtually any, and every, pertinent detail from his entire life. Check and check."

I even remember being at old Jarry Park with my grandfather when Carter chased a fly ball, crashed into the wall and ended up bruising three ribs. By the way, the ball was an obvious home run and Carter had absolutely no chance to catch it but that play was a sign of how the rest of his career would be; always hustling, always playing at 200 miles per hour as if every out was the last play of his life.
