At the time, Nanos publicly attacked the FBI, saying, “If they’re having problems doing criminal investigations, please call us because we have real policemen here.” Then Deputy at the time, Chris Radtke was charged with multiple felonies and ultimately pleaded to a lesser charge. Chief of Staff Brad Gagnepain, also under investigation, died by suicide that June. Sheriff Chris Nanos lost his re-election that year.
