Terry Jackson "Sweet T" Bunn, Jr., is spending very little time at his home in Cottondale, Alabama. This is the place where Sweet T raped University of Alabama honors student Megan Rondini during the early morning hours of July 2, 2015. Sweet T, who is a member of the rich and powerful Bunn family, has denied raping Megan.
The growing pressure from online media reporting and victims' rights groups has caused Sweet T to lay low at his family's home in the Fosters, an unincorporated community in Tuscaloosa County. The family's residence sits on 3,500 acres of secluded land.
Sweet T, 36, is still drinking heavily. He occasionally cruises the Tuscaloosa bar and club scene in search of 18, 19, and 20-year-old coeds for sexual encounters. Local law enforcement officers privately refer to Sweet T as a "dirt bag". He is known to use "date rape" drugs on his sexual prey.
Sweet T is counting on his family's proven ability to control the outcome of law enforcement investigations to end the pressure on him from the newest investigation into Megan Rondini's rape case. After all, the Bunn family has always bailed Sweet T out of legal troubles, especially when his brushes with the law involved reported rape cases.
Who Requested the AG's Investigation into Megan Rondini's Rape Case?
As we reported yesterday, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall is investigating the Megan Rondini rape case. Marshall, who is running for election to a full term as AG in next year's elections, has come under heavy criticism from victims' rights groups for his lackadaisical attitude toward Megan's tragic rape case. Marshall's initial response to the June 2017 BuzzFeed News article about Megan's rape case was to simply ignore it.
One thing is clear at this juncture -- Steve Marshall is not investigating Megan's rape case because he truly cares about a rape victim who committed suicide after Sweet T escaped criminal justice in her case. In fact, Marshall has not assigned his best rape investigator to this probe.
Furthermore, it does not appear that Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Ron Abernathy or District Attorney Hays Webb requested the investigation into Megan's rape case. Neither man has made a public statement about the AG's investigation and neither one has recused himself from Megan's case.
Finally, it does not appear that The University of Alabama has requested the AG's criminal investigation. The University has chosen to devalue its female students by openly aligning itself with Sweet T and the Bunn family in this matter. As such, the University has been silent about Megan's rape incident and the subsequent police cover up of this crime.
Based upon these factors, it is highly likely that Steve Marshall's investigation has resulted from an Alabama State Bar Association complaint that was filed against former district attorney Lyn Head. These complaints are always handled in a confidential manner.
Watching the Foxes in the Hen House
A "clean" district attorney would ask the attorney general to handle or assign another DA to a rape case in which she/he accepted money from the criminal suspect or a member of the accused rapist's family. This scenario presents the type of conflict of interest that the Alabama State Bar Association would normally care about if it has been shown that former DA Lyn Head knowingly accepted campaign money from the Bunn family and/or Sweet T himself, via political action committees, before her rape investigation began and/or immediately after it concluded. She took money from Sweet T and his family in Megan's rape case.
If Ron Abernathy and Hays Webb removed themselves from the investigation, they would be of little value to the "target" of the investigation. Absent an announced recusal, Abernathy and Webb remain in a position to influence the scope of the criminal investigation, as well as any decisions on who gets "targeted".
Steve Marshall's investigation will either expose the police cover up in Megan's rape case, or allow it to continue. Marshall will either prosecute Sweet T, the "date rape" drug traffickers who are tied to him, and the crooked law enforcement officials who "fixed" Megan's case for Sweet T, or he will allow all of them to go free.
Nothing in Steve Marshall's professional background demonstrates that he has the backbone necessary to (a) prosecute a rich and powerful rape suspect like Sweet T, or (b) hold "dirty" law enforcement officials like Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Ron Abernathy, Investigators Adam Jones and Josh Hastings, and former DA Lyn Head accountable for their misconduct in Megan Rondini's rape case.
The Battle Between "Good" versus "Evil"
Meanwhile, the various Justice for Megan Rondini advocacy groups are mobilizing their growing network of grassroots supporters to focus on next year's elections as an opportunity to support political candidates who are committed to stopping a known serial rapist and holding the "dirty" law enforcement officials in Megan's rape case accountable for their misconduct.
In the battle between "good" and "evil", the most committed side wins. The Justice for Megan Rondini movement is the most committed side in this battle because it is fighting for the safety and security of the women most decent Americans love unconditionally --- our daughters, granddaughters, sisters, wives, and mothers.
