Time and time again he was courted by the pros, but only in 1969 did he really consider it. That’s because the Miami Dolphins came at him with an absurd five-year, $1.7 million contract that would’ve paid him over three times as much annually as Packers coach Vince Lombardi made at his peak. He mulled the offer, but ultimately passed, saying he’d never leave Alabama for financial reasons. The Dolphins would go on to hire Don Shula a year later, but what if Bryant had taken Miami’s offer?
