Auburn's Gus Malzahn should jump at Texas job if it becomes open - College Football - Pete Thamel - SI.com - But as great as things are for Malzahn on the Plains right now, here's a piece of advice for the Tigers coach: Get out of Auburn as fast as you can. There's an expectation that the Texas job will open in the next few weeks. According to a source, Malzahn has told friends privately that coaching the Longhorns is his dream job. If confronted with the choice between Auburn and Austin, it's a no-brainer move for Malzahn to bolt. The best job in the Big 12 is a much more stable place than The Plains, as even a play-caller of Malzahn's acumen isn't likely to make adjustments to historical trends. History tells us that Auburn coaches -- no matter how successful -- don't have long and stable professional careers. Just ask Terry Bowden, who started 11-0 in 1993. Or Tommy Tuberville, who went 13-0 in 2004 after a failed coup to hire Bobby Petrino. Or Gene Chizik, who got fired two seasons after going 14-0 and winning the national title

Whether he's innocent or guilty, Jameis Winston's case was botched - Michael Rosenberg - SI.com - Look at other cases in the area, and you can see how unusual this delay is. One of Winston's top targets this season was supposed to be Greg Dent. In June, Dent was accused of sexually assaulting a longtime acquaintance. That happened at 3:30 a.m on a Sunday. He was charged the next day. (He hasn't played since, and awaits trial.) On Feb. 1, 2012, Two Tallahassee teenagers were accused of raping a girl at the Godby High School football field. Two weeks later, they were charged as adults. In May 2013, one was convicted. To sum up: from accusation to conviction in less than 16 months. We have waited 12 months just to find out if Winston will be charged. A lot of questions should be asked at this press conference. Some of those questions are about what happened last Dec. 7. But many are about what has happened since.
