Donald V. Watkins - you have raised an excellent question. I think the best option for eliminating the "forcible resistance" requirement is to work with a strong senator to sponsor an amendment to the existing rape statute that eliminates this requirement. I also think advocacy groups should contact Sen. Vivian Figures (D-Mobile) and ask her to sponsor this amendment. She is a strong and effective leader. They should also demand that The University of Alabama back this legislative initiative and direct its lobbyists to get it passed. This will guarantee its passage. When the student body returns for the 2017-18 school year, we should encourage the SGA and Crimson White news organization to join in this initiative. We should call the legislation "Megan's Law". Any legislator who cannot support Megan's Law should be voted out of office in the 2018 elections.
