Should the Mets Retire Carter's Number? - NYTimes.com - Ken Belson - The Yankees retired Reggie Jackson’s number even though he, too, only played five seasons in New York. If they want another excuse, the Mets could retire Carter’s No. 8 because it was also worn by Yogi Berra, who played briefly for the Mets, coached with them for years and guided the Ya Gotta Believe team to the 1973 World Series.
