Birmingham News moving to three days a week - Birmingham Business Journal - According to al.com, the new Alabama Media Group will include The Birmingham News, Press-Register, The Huntsville Times and al.com. Cindy Martin, who is now president and CEO of al.com, will head up the new entity, which will focus on digital coverage. Beginning this fall, the newspapers will now be sold in stores and delivered on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays only.

HealthSouth founder Richard Scrushy's appeal is also on the same schedule. Siegelman and Scrushy were convicted after a jury trial in Montgomery on charges that they exchanged donations to Siegelman's lottery fund for an appointment to a state health board. The standard of evidence in distinguishing such political contributions from criminal bribery is the issue in their appeals.

Lawyers for both Rupert Murdoch’s media company and victims of phone hacking said in court Friday that the company will likely face a total of 500 civil suits related to phone hacking, only about 110 of which have been filed or settled so far. The cost of battling the civil claims has put a significant drain on News Corp. since the hacking activity first came to light, and the company reported in early May that it had spent $167 million on legal fees related to the cases.
