Former VP Al Gore helps Don Siegelman raise money for SCOTUS appeal, which could come Monday | al.com - Mary Orndorff - Washington Bureau - Siegelman's appeal was considered at the Thursday conference of the justices, which means it could be on the list released Monday where the justices announce which petitions they will accept and which they will not. HealthSouth founder Richard Scrushy's appeal is also on the same schedule. Siegelman and Scrushy were convicted after a jury trial in Montgomery on charges that they exchanged donations to Siegelman's lottery fund for an appointment to a state health board. The standard of evidence in distinguishing such political contributions from criminal bribery is the issue in their appeals.
