He had twice been a Punt, Pass and Kick finalist — he would always say that he should have won the second time, but he slipped on the ice in the bitter cold of Green Bay — and he had a scholarship waiting for him at UCLA. He looked the part of the star quarterback; he would say that his dream was to be the next Joe Namath.

Kid was straight out of Ozzie and Harriet, faithful to his wife, Sandy, devoted to his children, always smiling, bestowing corny nicknames upon anyone who came his way.

In the seventh inning of a scoreless game against the Chicago Cubs, Carter lined an 0-2 pitch over the right fielder's head to score Larry Walker with what turned out to be the only run of the game. Carter got a lengthy standing ovation from the Montreal crowd. You will get goosebumps while watching it.
