Sexually abused women are sick and tired of suffering in silence. They are now speaking out in public all across America. It is time to end sexual abuse in our society, and we must do it now.
Terry Jackson "Sweet T" Bunn, Jr. (Tuscaloosa), Bill Cosby (Philadelphia), Harvey Weinstein (Los Angeles), Kevin Spacey (Hollywood), and Roy Moore (Montgomery) have emerged as the poster boys for the movement to end the sexual abuse and rape culture in America. All of these men have become the focus of sexual assault allegations that have rocked the nation.
Individually and collectively, these men and their cases have defined the sexual abuse problem and rape culture in America. They symbolize male privilege and its power to turn unsuspecting women (and men in Spacey's case) into sexual abuse victims.
Although prosecutors and media organizations in Alabama have largely ignored sexual assault and rape allegations against powerful men like Sweet T and Roy Moore, international media organizations in Washington, New York, Los Angeles, and the United Kingdom have joined online journalists David Meck Meckley and me in raising public awareness about this pervasive problem in society. As a result of this media alliance, women are finally beginning to see and feel a formidable support system to eradicate the sexual abuse and rape culture in America.
If you are a strong and self-respecting woman whose father, brother, husband, boyfriend, or significant other will not join you in fighting for an end to the culture of sexual abuse and rape in Alabama and across America, then you now have a real problem.
If you are a major corporation or public utility and you engage the professional services of PR firms that represent sexual abusers and/or their allies, then you now have a real problem.
If you are a law enforcement official or prosecutor and you "fix" a criminal case for a rich and powerful sexual abuser or rapist, then you now have a real problem.
If you are a trial judge and you "home cook" a sexually abused victim or her family (where the victim is dead) in order to help an abuser or rapist escape criminal justice because he is a rich and powerful man, then you now have a real problem.
If you are a so-called "news organization" and you take advertising dollars for an attack ad against a sexually abused person, then you now have a real problem.
If you are a PR firm that takes money to bash a sexually abused victim in order to divert attention from a sexual abuser, then you now have a real problem.
If you are a public official who is too weak-kneed to stand up and support a sexually abused victim, then you need to be defeated at the polls at the first available opportunity.
Any man who will not condemn a sexual abuser or rapist is likely one himself. If not, he is definitely part of the problem.
