After taking a statement from Megan Rondini at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama around 5 a.m. on the morning of July 2, 2015, Sheriff's Department investigators Adam Jones, Josh Hastings and two others visited Terry Jackson "Sweet T" Bunn, Jr., at his residence at 5:45 a.m. Megan had accused Sweet T of raping her at his house earlier that morning.
When they arrived at his house, Sweet T invited the investigators into his home. He consented to a search of the residence and allowed them to take photographs.
They asked Sweet T if he had come home with a female. Sweet T lied to the investigators by stating that he had not brought Megan to his house. This was his first version of the "truth" to investigators who were inquiring about Megan's reported rape.
While investigators were taking photos of the scene, Adam Jones heard a window shut inside the residence. Investigators confronted Sweet T about the window and he advised them that he wanted to speak to his lawyer, which he did.
Jones, Hastings, and the other investigators inexplicably left the residence without securing the scene and without making the occupants exit the residence until they returned, which was about two hours later.
After speaking to Attorney Jason Neff, Sweet T gave the investigators a second version of the "truth". An audiotape of this version was made at 8:35 or 8:37 a.m. at his house.
Notice how friendly the investigator was while questioning the "suspect" in Megan Rondini's reported rape case. The interview was loaded with leading questions by the interviewer that suggested safe answers for Sweet T. They were even laughing during the "interrogation" that lasted 6 minutes and 32 seconds.
Also, notice how cold, detached, and self-centered Sweet T sounds when discussing Megan and their sexual encounter. His answers had a lawyer's spin to them. "We had consensual sex", is literally the second sentence out of Sweet T's mouth.
Finally, there is a complete absence of questions by the investigator about why Sweet had lied to them when he denied bringing Megan to his house. This dramatic shift in Sweet T's two versions of the "truth" was not covered at all.
During a July 6th follow-up interview at the Sheriff's Department, investigator Josh Hastings helped Sweet T clean up his initial lie that he had not brought Megan to his house. Hastings suggested an innocent explanation for his deliberately false statement. Sweet T readily adopted Hastings' explanation and made it his own.
Hastings then ended his ingratiating interview by telling Sweet T: "The way I look at, man, if it was me on the other side of it, I would want you to do the same for me."
