Google Fiber Appears Austin-Bound - Mashable - While not well-known to the average Internet user, Fiber's futuristic, ultra-fast, one-gigabit broadband Internet service has hardcore techies in a tizzy. Kansas City is currently the only city where residents already enjoy the speedy service, but Google has also announced plans to expand to nearby Olathe, Kansas, soon. - On Friday, reporters were sent invitations to a press event next Tuesday morning, in which "the City of Austin and Google will make a very important announcement that will have a positive impact on Austinites and the future of the city."
