Western Kentucky eager for encounter with No. 1 Alabama – USATODAY.com - No matter the score, WKU will earn $1 million. It got $900,000 for playing LSU last season. "It's close to 5% of our overall budget. We're a little bit over $21 million right now in terms of an athletic department budget (for 19 sports). So it's a big chunk," says athletics director Todd Stewart. - Expenses will come out of the Alabama check. "If you have a high pay day, but you have a six-figure charter flight expenses, then a lot of that's coming off the top," says Stewart. - That won't be a factor this trip because it's a five-hour bus ride. "You really don't save a lot of time on a shorter flight," says Stewart.
