Chris McNair's failed clemency request cited daughter's death in church bombing | al.com - Mary Orndorff Troyan -- Washington Bureau -- One letter in the clemency file with the name not redacted was from Birmingham lawyer Donald Watkins, who publicly campaigned against McNair's first petition and already has filed his opposition to the upcoming second petition. In the new letter, Watkins recommends that the Obama administration deny clemency and instead award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to the four girls killed in the church bombing, including McNair's daughter Denise.
