Top Mercedes executive: Dothan could have 'opportunity' for supply plant | Dothan Eagle - Schaefer pointed to Mayor Mike Schmitz, owner of the Dothan Mercedes dealership and the man who invited Schaefer to Dothan, as an energetic thinker. “He seems really bright,” Schaefer said. “It’s an outstanding leadership. I heard about it before, and it’s the reason I came. It exceeded my expectations. You are lucky to have this mayor here.” -- “We are definitely expanding in Alabama, not only in our facility but also in the supply base on a monthly basis,” Schaefer said. “We’re really trying out our labor force base in Tuscaloosa, and we definitely have to expand our supply base. We need to locate our supply base a little bit farther away from our plant because we’re stretching our labor, so we’re looking for new areas. I talked to the mayor and there might be opportunities for Dothan.” While it’s far from a guarantee, Schmitz said preliminary talks have gone well, and he’s excited about the possibilities. “We talked to him about maybe having a supplier in Dothan, and we’re just talking about it right now, but who knows? That’s how everything starts,” Schmitz said. “We need jobs. That has to be a priority.
