Tebow doesn't silence his critics, he handles them - Gwen Knapp - San Francisco Chronicle - Tebow's defenders and critics both have staked out extreme positions. He is either a mystical figure with extraordinary skills that transcend the fundamentals of football, and quite possibly owe themselves to Christian fundamentalism, or he is a mediocre passer with a cult following that scares the secular wits out of a lot of football traditionalists and media members. Declare neutrality or conflicted confusion on Tebow, and you'll find yourself in a deserted space.
