Mets will pay tribute to Gary Carter with No. 8 jerseys | Yahoo! Sports - When the New York Mets take Citi Field for opening day batting practice on Thursday, they'll do so while wearing identical No. 8 Gary Carter jerseys. It is, of course, a cool tribute to the late Hall of Famer who died on Feb. 16 at the much too early age of 57. The team has been wearing special Gary Carter patches on their uniforms during spring training and will continue wearing them during the regular season.
