Dick Cheney, who was the most dangerous VP in history, starts even more wars with new book - NYDailyNews.com - Mike Lupica

excerpt ..

Cheney never misled the President, of course. Just the country in the run-up to the war in Iraq, when if you didn't back the war you didn't love your country enough, when taking out Saddam Hussein became a referendum on your patriotism.

Cheney now says that the intelligence that led to the war wasn't just ours, it was everybody's, as if that justifies that blood that has been shed since, all the dead and broken bodies of the young. Maybe Cheney would have felt differently about war and the cost of war if he'd ever been in one.

There have been all the other faces of old men in government who have sent the young off to die for their country.

Cheney is that face now. You believe him now the way you believed him when he was all over the place telling the country that if we didn't take out Saddam the next thing you knew he'd be setting off a bomb in the Mall of America in Minnesota.

It was a ridiculous version of things then; it is a ridiculous version of things now. Cheney has to know what all smart people know by now, that the Bush administration started beating the drums on Iraq on the first anniversary of 9/11 and never stopped until we were in there, about to spend trillions of dollars and all those lives to take out a regional thug who would never have made a move on this country.
