As Time Goes Bye - NYTimes.com - Maureen Dowd - We can’t wear black crepe every time someone prefers to read on a tablet; we can’t be like the auto industry and the G.O.P., who got accustomed to waiting around for it to be 1965 again. -- Digital platforms are worthless without content. They’re shiny sacks with bells and whistles, but without content, they’re empty sacks. It is not about pixels versus print. It is not about how you’re reading. It is about what you’re reading.

In the battle of corporate nerds, the tech support guys need to go – Quartz - Peter Hinssen - The tension between ‘business’ and IT has been around forever, but instead of getting better, it has gotten worse in the last couple of years. To put it bluntly, since everyone and their dog started carrying around iPads, the IT department really lost their advantage on the ‘frontier of technology -- Many IT departments seem stuck in their role as ‘suppliers of technology’. Very few have really stepped up to what the CIO job description is really all about: having a solid impact on how companies are dealing with information. - Many so-called CIO’s limited themselves to supplying their colleagues with copies of Microsoft Office on laptops, and ever so kindly offered them SharePoint servers to store their documents. But very few had a solid influence on how companies deal with content, build up knowledge, and how they could innovate with information.
IBM CEO Predicts Three Ways Technology Will Transform The Future Of Business - Forbes -- Jenna Goudreau - “The social network will be the new production line in a company,” Rometty predicted. The primary benefit of new social platforms, she said, is that today’s knowledge workers have access to each other. In the near future, she believes “your value will not be what you know, but what you share.” - This social sharing shift will change the way businesses hire, who they hire and how they compensate workers, said Rometty. Employees will be rated by bosses, colleagues and even customers on the value of the information they create, she said, which could impact compensation.
