Dothan bondsman-newsman almost enlisted to help meet Midland City hostage-taker's demands | al.com - Erin Edgemon - Just minutes after Jimmy Lee Dykes got on the Dale County School bus and shot its driver on Jan. 29, Dothan native Rickey Stokes was en route to the scene on a dirt road in rural Midland City. - For the past 10 years or so, the bail bondsman has written a blog, rickeystokesnews.com, largely focused on crime in the Dothan area. He was preparing for a live feed of a county school board meeting that night when one of his bail bondsmen called from the jail saying he heard a 911 call of a gunman on a school bus.

Hostage Heroes “How They Did It”. - WTVY.com - CBS News - Former FBI assistant director John Miller breaks down what happened on Charles Poland's school bus last Tuesday: - "This videotape doesn't unfold over seconds - it unfolds over minutes. He comes on the bus and he knows the bus driver. The bus driver had dropped a pie off at his house that day. He says I want two children, and Charlie Poland opens the emergency door and lets all the children escape, but Ethan is sitting in the front seat and he just freezes. And then for the next few minutes, Dykes is saying I'm taking this boy with me, and Charlie Poland says no you're not. And Dykes says if you try to stop me I'm going to shoot you. And you can tell on the video the driver is frightened but he stands his ground." - Miller says in the course of the negotiations with Dykes, negotiators tried to find a third party who Dykes would trust but the FBI discovered Dykes had no friends.

Chris Rock: 'The President is Our Boss'… Our 'Dad' | Chris Rock | Fox Nation - “You don’t need no gun control, you know what you need? We need some bullet control. Men, we need to control the bullets, that’s right. I think all bullets should cost five thousand dollars… five thousand dollars per bullet… You know why? Cause if a bullet cost five thousand dollars there would be no more innocent bystanders.

Small Town Wins Its Standoff With a Kidnapper - NYTimes.com - Campbell Robertson and Robbie Brown - Early ideas were proposed and dropped. Filming the scene from across the highway was a man named Rickey Stokes, a local bail bondsman who runs a blog on happenings in the area, RickeyStokesNews.com. Officials invited Mr. Stokes over, and discussed having him either go into the bunker with a camera, or teach a female F.B.I. agent to use his camera and go in. - Both of those notions were scrapped quickly. In any case, Mr. Dykes, wary of being tricked, insisted that his speech be live-streamed, not prerecorded. - Kirke Adams, the district attorney for Dale County who had been called to the scene from coaching high school girls’ soccer practice, said Mr. Dykes never gave an inch. - “The demand he made was impossible to accomplish in the way he wanted it done,” Mr. Adams said. “And he would accept no alternative.”
