17-Year-Old Amends His U.S. Open Goals - NYTimes.com - Standing by the practice putting green Wednesday, 17-year-old Beau Hossler said he had simple goals for the 112th United States Open. - He wanted to make the cut and he wanted to be the low amateur in the field. Those were, he said, reasonable ambitions. After all, he had played his first Open a year ago, way back when he was only 16. As Saturday’s third round ended, when he was tied for eighth, and one stroke ahead of Tiger Woods, Hossler had amended his goals. - “I still want to be low amateur, but I also want to win the tournament,” he said. “I’m in contention to win it, and I’m going to try and take advantage of it tomorrow.”
