What small business can learn from Google – USATODAY.com - By Julie Clow, Special to CNBC.com - When I talk to people about Google and its organizational culture, they are equally fascinated and hopeless, believing that the magic behind Google lies in the deep revenue streams that make it possible to feed its employees three meals a day. Small businesses, especially, tend to dismiss Google as a wholly unattainable model for running a business. However, I learned core lessons at Google that transformed the way I look at problem solving and strategic thinking. There were statements that I heard early and often that guided decision-making at every level of the organization. These mantras are at the core of innovation for Google but translate readily to any business to create agility, employee engagement and ultimately, stronger business results. Google's success owes far more to these mantras than the food in the cafes, and even better, they cost no money to implement.
Birmingham News moving to three days a week - Birmingham Business Journal - According to al.com, the new Alabama Media Group will include The Birmingham News, Press-Register, The Huntsville Times and al.com. Cindy Martin, who is now president and CEO of al.com, will head up the new entity, which will focus on digital coverage. Beginning this fall, the newspapers will now be sold in stores and delivered on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays only.

Woody Paige: Dan O'Dowd era officially ruled an error - The Denver Post - However, some cavemen stupidly suggest The Post has been easy on the Rockies and O'Dowd because the newspaper is a minority partner in the Rox ownership. That misconception is left over from the Rocky Mountain News, which was the team's bed partner. If The Post controlled the Rockies, O'Dowd long ago would have been fired. According to The Post's recent survey question, 89 percent responded that O'Dowd should be fired. The other 11 percent must work for Root (how appropriate) Sports or text those pithy comments shown on the screen during games — "go rockies u kin come back fom 11 dwn bff wher my tacoes." O'Dowd will not be fired no matter what we think because Monfort thinks he is the greatest general manager in baseball. Think again, Dick.
