Jamie's Cryin: Dimon, J.P. Morgan Chase Lose 2 Billion | Matt Taibbi | Rolling Stone - If you’re wondering why you should care if some idiot trader (who apparently has been making $100 million a year at Chase, a company that has been the recipient of at least $390 billion in emergency Fed loans) loses $2 billion for Jamie Dimon, here’s why: because J.P. Morgan Chase is a federally-insured depository institution that has been and will continue to be the recipient of massive amounts of public assistance. If the bank fails, someone will reach into your pocket to pay for the cleanup. So when they gamble like drunken sailors, it’s everyone’s problem.

Bully Pulpit Second Thoughts | Swampland | TIME.com - Joe Klein - I fear that I went too easy on Mitt Romney with regard to his high school bullying escapades. It’s not the incident itself that troubles me–though it was, obviously, outrageous and disgraceful–so much as his current response: He doesn’t remember it. This is patent nonsense. How could he not remember it? Obviously, he remembers it or he wouldn’t have been so quick to issue his blanket apology yesterday for any and all hurt he may have caused at Cranbrook. And this transparent fudge once again raises questions about his character. -- I’m still waiting for the moment when Romney actually tells the truth about something difficult. He could have said, “You know, I’ve been troubled by the Cranbrook episode for most of my life, and I feel relieved, in a way, that it’s come out now. I did a really stupid and terrible thing.

The Josh Hamilton Story: Why Statistics, Achievements, and Awards Can't Always Measure Success - MidwestSportsFans.com - Zach Gropper - Josh Hamilton has evolved from a tainted figure and despicable waste of talent into a pure and influential role model. Sure, he’s had problems with substances, but he has put forth all the effort in the world to overcome them, and in turn has encouraged and inspired others, which his story has done and will continue to do. So the 4-HR game, the MVP Award, the immaculate statistics, and multi-million dollar contracts are not the story for Hamilton; they are merely nice details to the incredible series of events that makes up one of the best success stories of our generation.

Column: David Meckley on His Father, Mr. Dick Meckley - Plus Comments by Ben Crenshaw - March 8, 2001 - TheMeck.com -I'll end this column with a letter from Dad's friend, Ben Crenshaw, who called me and talked for 30 minutes about my Dad, and asked me to read this tribute at Dad's memorial service. Mr. Crenshaw wrote, "We lost a friend a short while ago, a friend to us all who loved golf, Mr. Dick Meckley. I so enjoyed my conversations with him over the years as we shared observations about the people we have met through golf, the people who work within the industry, about golf equipment, golf swings and especially golf courses and their upkeep. We shared a lot. I looked forward to talks with him because they were so soothing, so genuine and so entertaining. "I looked to him as a sort of surrogate father. We shared a lot of things, but that's what friends do. I think everyone was enriched by knowing Dick Meckley. God Bless him and his family."
