Four of a kind: Hamilton 16th in MLB history to hit four homers in game | Star-Telegram - Jeff Wilson - Almost to a man, Josh Hamilton's teammates were certain that if he got another chance Tuesday night, he was going to hit his fourth home run of the game. He got that chance and proved them right, but that didn't leave the Texas Rangers any less stunned by what they had just seen: the 16th four-homer game in major-league history.
Rangers’ Josh Hamilton Hits Four Homers Against Orioles - NYTimes.com - Tyler Kepner - We have not even finished the second week of May, and already this is a baseball season like no other. For the first time in history, the most precious achievements for a pitcher and a hitter have occurred in the same season. Josh Hamilton of the Texas Rangers belted four home runs on Tuesday night in Baltimore, just 17 days after Philip Humber of the Chicago White Sox tossed a perfect game in Seattle. The Rangers thumped the Orioles, 10-3, with Hamilton adding a double to set the American League’s single-game record for total bases, with 18. He tied the major league record, set by Joe Adcock of the Milwaukee Braves in 1954.
Hamilton's historic night ranks among best four-home run games - Cliff Corcoran - SI.com - When Josh Hamilton hit four home runs against the Orioles on Tuesday, he became just the 16th man in baseball history to accomplish the feat. More men (21) have thrown perfect games. Hamilton's performance was even more impressive than that, however. When you factor in the fact that Hamilton went 5-for-5 on the night, mixing a double in among his four homers, it could be argued that his was one of the handful of best single-game hitting performances in major league history. The two most important things a hitter can do, independent of his teammates, is avoid outs and hit for extra bases. Four home runs add up to 16 total bases. Since 1918, just five men have totaled 16 total bases in a game. Hamilton is one of them.

Désamour and Amour - NYTimes.com - Maureen Dowd - “The falling out of love of the French will be worse than his divorce with Cécilia,” a Sarkozy friend told Le Parisien. “It wouldn’t surprise me if he goes through a small depression.” This nation of elegant formality frowned at a leader lacking impulse control, who could arrive late for a meeting with the pope and then check his phone, and who could dismiss a citizen who wouldn’t shake his hand at an agricultural fair with a profane version of “Get lost, you poor idiot.” At a jubilant celebration at the Bastille Sunday night, French revelers held up plastic glasses of Champagne and signs telling Sarko: “Get lost, you poor idiot.”
News report: Would-be bomber was a double-agent - CNN.com - A man who volunteered as a suicide bomber for a terrorist group intent on blowing up a U.S.-bound plane was working instead as an intelligence agent for Saudi Arabia, The New York Times reported Tuesday, citing American and foreign officials.
Rangers' Josh Hamilton bashes four home runs - USATODAY - Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton, who put on a memorable show of power the day before the 2008 All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium, became the 16th player in history to hit four home runs in a game when he connected in the eighth inning Tuesday against Baltimore Orioles right-hander Darren O'Day. All of Hamilton's home runs were two-run shots, the others coming in the first, third and seventh innings as the Rangers beat the Orioles 10-3. He also doubled in the fifth and finished 5-for-5 with 18 total bases, which set an American League record and fell one shy of the major league mark.
Is This the Most Boring Election Ever? | Matt Taibbi | Rolling Stone - But this campaign, relatively speaking, will not be fierce or hotly contested. Instead it'll be disappointing, embarrassing, and over very quickly, -- It's just impossible to take Mitt Romney seriously as a presidential candidate. Even the news reporters who are paid to drum up dramatic undertones are having a hard time selling Romney as half of a titanic title bout. -- The Republican base is angrier and more determined than it ever has been, yet Republican voters picked as their nominee the one candidate in their slate of primary challengers who depresses them. This is exactly the John Kerry scenario. Kerry was never going to win, either, and everyone pretty much knew that, too
