Senate Control Could Hinge on Angus King of Maine - NYTimes.com - Jonathan Weisman - Former Gov. Angus King of Maine has a warning for the national political parties that may flood his state with negative ads to derail his independent candidacy for the Senate: “I will take note of how I am treated in this campaign.” That is not an idle threat from some quixotic candidate for the seat being vacated by Maine’s famously moderate Republican, Olympia J. Snowe. It is a warning from the front-runner, a two-term independent governor who, because he refuses to say whom he would support for majority leader next year, may well decide which party controls an evenly divided Senate.

Warren Buffett says he'd allow women as Augusta members - ESPN - Billionaire investor Warren Buffett, a member of Augusta National Golf Club, said he would have women members if he were running the club. The home to the Masters golf tournament has long maintained a policy of not having women members, despite pressure in recent years, including at last month's event won by Bubba Watson. Buffett is the only known member so far to speak out. "I'm not telling the group at Augusta what to do, but if I were running the club I'd have plenty of women," Buffett, 81, said in an interview with Bloomberg Television following his company's annual meeting Saturday in Omaha, Neb.

Why Apple Won by Betting Against the Web - Mashable - Sarah Kessler -Roger McNamee, the managing director and co-founder of venture capital firm Elevation Partners, has a theory about how Apple became the biggest U.S. technology growth story of all time: “The thing that made Apple successful was betting against the web,” he said on stage at Mashable Connect Friday. While Google adopted the cultural norms of the wired web by making its mobile operating system free and commoditizing content, Apple changed the game by keeping a closed system, focusing on brands and enabling paid apps.

Chipper rips Moyer over sign-stealing accusation | David O'Brien - AJC - After being accused by Rockies pitcher Jamie Moyer of stealing signs during Saturday night’s game, Braves third baseman Chipper Jones acted like anything but a lion in winter. He roared all right – and kept roaring Sunday morning, lashing out at Moyer for questioning Jones’ integrity. But Jones also showed again how much hitting ability he retains, driving in five runs with his third consecutive three-hit game to help the Braves rally from a 6-0 deficit for a 13-9 win Saturday.
