On Gary Carter and Faith - NYTimes.com - Tyler Kepner - Carter lashed a single off Calvin Schiraldi, scored on a single by Ray Knight, and celebrated – in shin guards and chest protector — when the Mets capped their comeback. The next game, Carter squeezed the final strike when Jesse Orosco fanned Marty Barrett to clinch Game 7. Carter thrust his arms in the air, raced to the mound and leaped on Orosco to start the most raucous dogpile baseball had ever seen. It is how Mets fans will remember him, a champion on top of the pile. Nobody knows what God had to do with it. But Carter believed, and that seems important now.

The news today about Gary Carter made me really sad and broke my heart. It makes me cry.
I just couldn't believe it .. don't want to believe it.
So I started looking thru pictures of The Kid in my mind and on my site.

I will never forget that Feb day in 2000 when Gary Carter came to my hometown, Dothan Al, and shot an instructional and inspirational video with Javy Lopez and myself. Gary knows so much about catching and hitting but especially about life.
It was a wonderful day. The Kid made sure of that. Gary always talks about helping others. And he does just that.
He came all the way to Dothan and shot this video for me. He gave his knowledge, heart and most of all his TIME.
No charge. That's right. Both he and Javy.
There is nobody like The Kid, Gary Carter. He's The Best.
I have Many Wonderful Memories with The Kid. I will be posting some of those in the next few days. [including several other special occasions he came to my hometown].
I'm grateful that Gary included me in his life. He always gave me his TIME.
He has blessed so many, many lives.
Gary is a wonderful man.
I love you Kid.
I pray you get some relief from your pain.
We need a Game 6 Kid.
