Q&A at PGA with CBS broadcasters  | ajc.com - Steve Hummer

In a secluded nook of the Atlanta Athletic Club, where a paved service road gives way to gravel and dust, a compound of trailers thrums with the sound of a broadcasting platoon in prep mode. Here is base camp for CBS, the network broadcasting this PGA Championship.
It’s where a foursome of the most acclaimed broadcasters in the field sat down together for a few moments Wednesday to discuss subjects hither and yon — from the state of professional golf to the storylines for this final major of the year to a celebrity dream date with Catherine Zeta-Jones.
The participants: Jim Nantz, the steadying anchor of each broadcast. David Feherty and Gary McCord, the glib on-course reporters. And one actual knight of this roundtable discussion, six-time major champion Sir Nick Faldo.
Here are excerpts of the gathering:

Really enjoyed this article by Steve Hummer. He's a gifted writer.
The last PGA Championship I worked with TNT was 10 years ago at Atlanta Athletic Club.
I saw Jim Nantz and he said, 'Hey Meck, How are things in Dothan? We're not too far from your home.'
He could meet you in Alabama today and see you 10 years later in New York and call you by your name. He has a photo memory of his memory.

If I ever had to go to the electric chair .. I'd like to have my last meal with Jim Nantz. He could bring a smile to your face. Regardless. Encourage you.
Jim Nantz is a 1st class guy. Full of kindness and compassion.

I had the privilege of working with 2 great guys for many years, Ernie Johnson Jr. and Bobby Clampett in the 18th tower for TBS/TNT. Many wonderful memories with EJ and Bobby. They are the best.
Ernie, Bobby, Jim. 3 wonderful guys who have the gift of greatness - 'The ability to make those around them feel great.' They made me feel great for 11 years straight at The PGA Championship. It was a blessing to work with them. - Meck

@finebaum: Liucci,'I think they're going to try to wrap this up very quickly (with the SEC)'

@finebaum: Liucci,'I have heard that the SEC will go to 13 teams for one year, then add a 14th team from the EAST (ACC).'

@finebaum: I think it's more likely today that we could be seeing a major story developing with A&M.
