I expect to see the people involved go to jail over their obstruction of justice and failure to provide “honest government services” in Megan Rondini’s case. - Donald V. Watkins

The Bunn Family Responds in the Megan Rondini Rape Case

The Bunn Family placed a full page paid advertisement in today's Tuscaloosa News. The ad speaks for itself and is reproduced in full below. A local attorney for the family submitted the text of the ad.
The ad, titled "Character Assassination in the Internet Age", directly attacks Megan Rondini's character. Of course, Megan is dead and cannot defend herself. We have and will.
Alabama defamation laws do not apply in cases where the defamed person is deceased. This is why the Bunn Family has taken the liberty to attack Megan's character without fear of legal consequences.
It is important to remember that Megan was never afforded an opportunity to testify about this matter before a grand jury. Instead, the law enforcement officials who were tainted by the Bunn family's money and prior relationships with them presented Megan's rape case to the grand jury.
The ad states that text messages sent by Megan of the night of her sexual encounter with Terry Jackson "Sweet T" Bunn, Jr., demonstrate that this encounter was consensual. This bold statement takes the words in one of Megan's text messages so far out of context that the statement, itself, is deliberately misleading.
Taking a page from Bill Cosby's playbook, the ad overlooks a mountain of relevant evidence in order to spin Megan's case as a classic "he said, she said" rape case. This has never been a "he said, she said" case.
To be clear, the ad represents the Bunn Family's best effort to project a positive spin on the facts we have established in our articles about the Megan Rondini rape case. The ad does not address: (a) the videotaped bullying of Megan by Sheriff's investigators; (b) Sheriff Abernathy's order to "script" the investigation; (c) the failure of law enforcement officials to conduct forensic testing on Megan's rape kit and urine sample; (d) the totality of evidence suggesting that Megan was unobtrusively administered a "date rape drug" prior to the sexual encounter on the night in question; (e) reports of prior sexual assaults by Sweet T under similar circumstances; (f) the receipt of laundered Bunn family campaign cash by district attorneys Lyn Head and Hays Webb and Sheriff Ron Abernathy; (g) DA Lyn Head's receipt of $500 in laundered "thank you" campaign money from Sweet T; (h) Lyn Head's failure to disclose to the Rondini family that she received laundered campaign money from ST Bunn Construction Company, before and after Megan accused Sweet T of rape; (i) the Bunn family's relationship with UA fundraiser Leslie Abernathy, who is the Sheriff's wife; (j) Sweet T's failure to disclose his gonorrhea infection to Megan before the sexual encounter; and (k) Sweet T's admitted underage drinking with Megan at her apartment before their sexual encounter.
Now that the Bunn family has placed Megan's character under attack in the public domain, Sweet T's character, or lack thereof, is fair game.
Finally, the ad engages in an act of wholesale character witnessing for the Bunn family. By doing so, the ad makes this subject fair game, as well.
Stay tuned.

After I posted my article Sunday title, "Was Megan Rondini's Accused Rapist Tied To The Underworld Of "Date Rape" Drugs And Sexual Abuse In Tuscaloosa?", I received several requests to post a photo of the Wes Powell referenced in the article. Apparently, there are several individuals named Wes Powell in the Tuscaloosa area. A photo of the Wes Powell referenced in our article appears below.

Brett Davis answered our article with a new profile photo on his Facebook page in which Stefan Swindoll (left) salutes our readers with his middle finger. This photo also appears below.

We are continuing to work on our next wave of articles in the Megan Rondini series of investigative reports. We thank our readers for the many tips and credible leads we have received since the publication of Sunday's article.

Finally, a major international news organization is working in Tuscaloosa this week on a feature story about Megan Rondini's rape case.

Stay tuned.
