What Americans Keep Ignoring About Finland's School Success - Anu Partanen - The Atlantic - The Scandinavian country is an education superpower because it values equality more than excellence. --Yet one of the most significant things Sahlberg said passed practically unnoticed. "Oh," he mentioned at one point, "and there are no private schools in Finland." This notion may seem difficult for an American to digest, but it's true. This means that practically every person in Finland attends public school, whether for pre-K or a Ph.D.

Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel’s legend grows as Heisman ceremony approaches | DallasNews.com - Kate Hairopoulos - It has been said, now many times, by those who know Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel that there is no stage too big for him. It plays right into the “Johnny Football” mystique, which was born and bred in Tyler and Kerrville before it earned the catchy name that’s gone wild. - The lore culminates, more rapidly than anyone expected, in Saturday night’s Heisman Trophy ceremony at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square. Manziel, who just turned 20 Thursday, will be the first freshman to win the revered trophy in its 78 years, should he top Notre Dame senior linebacker Manti Te’o and Kansas State senior quarterback Collin Klein as expected.
