Chipper Q&A : His Past and Future, On And Off Field -- AJC.com

Here's an exceptional Q&A interview with Chipper by David O'Brien - AJC.com Braves beat writer.
Chipper Jones is a 1st class guy and thru the years I've always found him to be cordial, accommodating, yet still very focused.

Chipper is a Braves Icon and [No  Doubt] a MLB Hall-Of-Fame switch-hitter .. with reservations for a table for 3 with Mickey Mantle and Pete Rose.

The Legendary Bobby Cox drafted Chipper No. 1 over-all in the summer of 1990.
Chipper begins his 18th season in the majors and his first season without Bobby Cox as his manager.

Number 10 must be in the line-up [most every day] if the Braves have any chance in 2011. Not exactly breaking news.

Second Wave Of Federal Indictments Are On The Way

Posted by The Meck - Jan 28, 2011 - 11:45a
-
Sadly .. what more than a few have talked about since October, is coming true very soon.
The Meck has learned .. the second wave of federal indictments in Alabama [re the bingo vote/debacle] will be served in the next few days.

A source with knowledge of the situation told The Meck: 'The Feds will be knocking on doors early Monday morning, Jan 31st. Maybe sooner.' As many as 20-25 people will be served with federal indictments, taken into custody and headed to Montgomery.

A press conference is said to be scheduled for Monday, Jan 31st from Washington D.C.

The Meck will update when I get more info.

Update/Correction - Dothan Ala. Native, Matt Cain, Dominates in World Series Game 2 - Oct 29, 2010 - 3:39p

Posted by The Meck - Nov 1, 2010 - 6:45a

Correction: Friday afternoon I posted some updated information [I thought] re Matt Cain
and how long he lived in Dothan, Al.
The information was incorrect so I removed it.
The correct info: Matt Cain lived in Dothan Al, his birthplace, 'just for a couple of years'
as he told my friend
Bob Nightengale from USA TODAY and I posted it on Oct 28, 2010.

Sorry for the confusion.
-
I'm sure Matt doesn't remember his brief stay in Dothan, but we are proud to claim him as a Dothan native
as he brings national attention to our hometown, every time its written or spoken: 'The RHP on the mound
for the SF Giants is Matt Cain, born in Dothan, Ala.'
-
Matt Cain dominated the Texas Rangers in a 9-0 rout in Game 2.
Cain has pitched 21 and 1/3 innings this 2010 postseason, no Earned Runs, 13K's and only 13 hits.
And a 2-0 record. [ including LCS win over Phillies].
The 26 yr-old Dothan Al. native is throwing a record performance in the 106th World Series.
The only Dothan Al. native, to my knowledge, to be a starting pitcher in the World Series.
-
If the Giants win tonite in Texas, they will be World Series Champions. If the Rangers win, The Series
moves back to San Francisco for Game 6 on Wed. Nov 3rd, and Dothan native, Matt Cain, on the mound.
I'm hoping it goes back to the 'city by the bay' for Game 6.

Most starting pitchers have very little to say on their day to start.
Per my request .. Bob Nightengale, My longtime friend with USA Today asked
Matt Cain yesterday afternoon before Game 2 in the World Series ..
How long did he live in Dothan, Al. his birthplace. - 'Just for a couple of years'.. He told Bob.

Matt Cain dominated the
Texas Rangers in a 9-0 rout in Game 2.

Cain has pitched 21 and 1/3 innings this 2010 postseason, no Earned Runs, 13K's and only 13 hits.
And a 2-0 record. [ including LCS win over Phillies].
The 26 yr-old Dothan, Al native is throwing a record performance in the 106th World Series.

Found some good info in the story below about Matt and his mother, Dolores, a former school teacher.
And his dad, Tom, a custom woodworker. His mom now runs the family tuxedo shop.

excerpt ..
"He keeps it so low-key, and he's so professional," Giants infielder Manny Burriss said. "He's been groomed to be that professional. It's crazy, he's like a veteran, but we're the same age."
When he was 4 years old, Cain's parents felt he was mature enough, so they enrolled him in kindergarten even though he missed the cutoff date because of his Oct. 1 birthday.
"My mom was a teacher, so I think she said, 'Let's just go ahead and start him at 4, and if he's not ready, we'll hold him back,'" Cain said.
That never happened, and by age 17 the Giants were offering him a $1.375 million signing bonus. Anderson knew that once all the scouts started flocking, he'd have no chance at the right-hander.
==
Day added that Cain was raised by good, measured people -- the son of Tom, a custom woodworker, and Dolores, a former teacher who now runs the family's tuxedo shop -- and his thoughtfulness makes an impact. Day said he knew during this postseason that Cain was trying to let him feel he has a small part in the experience when they'd text each other, Day sometimes giving Cain small bits of advice. It rubs off on his teammates.

Since I last wrote about Giants' starting pitcher, Matt Cain, Dothan, Al native
starting in the NLCS vs the Phillies .. several friends including Mr. Schmitz and
Brad Sherwood have asked me, How long did Matt Cain live in Dothan?

I contacted my good friend Bob Nightengale, a longtime, excellent baseball writer
for USA Today.
Bob is covering the World Series, as always, and I asked him to ask Matt about Dothan, Al. his birthplace.
Bob just talked with Matt Cain in the Giants clubhouse and reports Matt said he lived in Dothan:
'Just for a couple of years.'

Matt Cain's record in 2010: 13-11 with a 3.14 ERA. A workhorse with 223 innings.
He's 1-0 this postseason [LCS win over Phils] and has pitched 13 and 2/3 scoreless innings.
Cain was a 1st Round pick of the Giants in 2002 and made his ML debut in 2005 at age 20.
He turned 26 on Oct 1st.

This is Matt Cain's 1st World Series and to my knowledge, the 1st time a Dothan Al. native
is a starting pitcher in the World Series.

Dothan Al Native, Matt Cain, Starting Pitcher in NLCS

Posted by The Meck - Oct 19, 2010 4:59p/ct.

Matt Cain is the starting RH pitcher for the SF Giants today in the NLCS.
He was born in Dothan, Ala [ The Meck's birthplace and hometown].
Matt Cain is one of the best pitchers in the National League.
He graduated from Houston High School in Germantown Tenn.
Cain was a 1st Round pick of the Giants in 2002. His ML debut was in 2005 at age 20.

I like the Giants mainly because they have one of the best mgrs in the game, Bruce Bochy.
And he's a great guy. Had the privelege of knowing Bochy when he managed the SD Padres.
He's a classy, kind man. Bochy knows how to communicate with people.
And he knows how to treat people and his players with class.
That translates into winning .. no matter what you're doing.
Bruce Bochy reminds me a lot of Bobby Cox.

The Giants have been my NLCS pick for several months.
Their starting and relief pitching makes them very capable of winning it all.
No one believed any team had a chance vs the Phils' pitching.
I'm picking the Giants to win the NLCS and the World Series.
NLCS Game 3 started today at 4/3ct on Fox.

Here's a Wikopedia link plus a SF Giants link on Cain's up-to-date stats.
