THE MECK REPORT: A Visit w/ Mike Huckabee .. The Next President of the United States

NOTE: 8p ct: CNN has Declared Mike Huckabee the winner in Iowa.
No Surprise.

THE MECK REPORT: A Visit w/ Mike Huckabee .. The Next President of the United States.

" As an activist .. My aim is to right the many wrongs by shining light on darkness ..
creating a social/and or political change."

www.TheMeck.com - Posted Jan. 3, 2008 - 7:44p ct.

It was Christmas morning and I emailed my friend Mike Huckabee and wished he and Janet a Merry Christmas.
I knew he would be in Miami the next day and asked would he be in the Fla. Panhandle anytime soon?
He emailed me right back and invited me to Destin Fl. on Thursday at 11:45a.
[He would get back with me on the details].

Gov. Huckabee was making a brief non-scheduled stop in Destin from Orlando en route to Iowa.
He confirmed [late Wed. nite] the stop and time in Destin.
I invited our mutual friend Rick Stanley - Elvis Presley's Stepbrother and his daughter Bethany.
Plus my Lifetime friend BIG JIM Kearce to join us at the Destin Airport.
He contacted Joe Moore at WJHG Ch. 7 and reporter Kristy Wolski was on scene for Gov. Huckabee's arrival.
Also local Destin media. Patrick Donahue and Nick Tomecek.

The Governor's charter touched down and taxied to a hangar and he met briefly with supporters.
His charter for Iowa was waiting at the main gate and so were we.
He walked out of the terminal, gave Rick Stanley a big hug and then gave The Meck a Big Hug.
He said 'Meck .. You look like the Godfather.' [ dressed all in black].

Janet, his only wife of 30 years plus .. also gave me a hug and we [of course] took photos .
I visited with the Gov. about speech writing. He treated me like royalty. He was so gracious and normal.
I think it took some by surprise. He's not scripted or handled. He's a common man. Just like most of us.

I asked him to sign his book - 'From Hope To Higher Ground'.
A Must Read.
He wrote: To my friend David " The Meck" Meckley - Thanks for 30 years of brotherhood ! - Mike Huckabee.

That really meant a lot to me. I thought about that while I was driving back home to Dothan.
--
EARLY DAYS
It was the late 70s when Mike Huckabee and I worked together in Ft. Worth Texas.
I worked the sound system .. He worked media/PR and logistics with John McKay and James Robison.
We traveled this country together and I knew then he was sharp as a tac.

I tried to debate him several times with my opinions but he was quicker than Cool Hand Luke.
And of course .. Always gracious and for sure having fun.
He was a PR Master and I knew he had off-the-chart people skills. He was also a very gifted communicator.
I knew he deeply cared about people. Great compassion for others.

I worked the sound in Aug. 1980 at ReUnion Arena [ Dallas] for John McKay - Ronald Reagan - James Robison and Jerry Falwell.
Mr. Reagan had just won the nomination. 18 thousand were packed in and ready to spike a hymnal.
A young 25 yr. old Mike Huckabee worked logistics [with Clayton Spriggs] for this historic gathering.
--

ARKANSAS
Mike Huckabee moved to Arkansas .. pastored several churches ..
became Lt. Gov and later Governor for 10 1/2 years.
A 2-term elected Republican Gov. in a state full of Democrats.

In case you've been in Somolia watching The Weather Channel .. You know He's from Hope Ark.
How rare would that be ..? 2 Presidents out of 44 from the same small town in Arkanasas.

In Aug 2002 .. I called the Gov and said Rick Stanley and I want to come over [ to the mansion ] and hang out.
It was just several days before the 25th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death.
Gov. Huckabee said 'Come on over' .. And we had a great visit.
For several hrs. he included us in his day. The Gov. is a big Elvis fan.
He gave us his TIME.

FRIENDS
My friend Donald Watkins says re Gov. Huckabee .. 'He is a gifted communicator. A leader who relates to the regular guy.'
Yes he does indeed Mr. Watkins.
I told many people a year ago that Mike Huckabee would be the 44th President of the United States.

Friends Jim Kearce, Clay Bowen, Mike Schmitz, and Dr. Frank Crockett
have been Huck fans since the early days.
My friend Glen Serra thought I was on something. [ Huck was at 1%]
Just like Paul Finebaum said: 'Meck .. You were a Huck fan before it was cool.'

My friend Carolyn Serra is excited about her first chance to vote as a U.S. citizen.
As Glen Serra says .. 'We are now singing from the Huckabee Hymnal.'
10-4 Good Buddy.

This morning I emailed Gov Huckabee at 2 am. .. not expecting a reply until after today's caucus.
He answered me back immediately. I believe he had just landed back in Iowa [ from LA - doing the Tonight Show.]
How does he do it ..? Almost no sleep.

As I shared with Gov. Huckabee and many friends over the last year:
I honestly believe Mike Huckabee .. the 44th Gov. of Arkansas will be the 44th President of the United States.
The people are ready for one of us .. the common man to lead our country.

Not another politician owned and led by corporations.
Mike Huckabee is his own man. No one tells him how to think.
He's already been bought and paid for .. on the Cross.

COMMUNICATION
We want a leader who can communicate and not just speak in political phrases.
One who can actually sit down and talk with those who disagree with him.
Tip O'Neill and Ronald Reagan disagreed on policy but they were still friends .. Worked and had dinner together.

Mike Huckabee will be a President for all 300 Americans .. even those who disagree with him.
As Pastor .. He inspired some to walk down the aisle. I have no doubt he can work across the aisle in Washington.
Just like he did in Arkansas for over 10 years. [ He was term limited Jan. 2007].

Mike Huckabee's wisdom and the ability to communicate his message [even better than Reagan]
will be a refreshing, much needed change in America. The World will Take Note.
The 'Bunker Mentality' of The Bush White House will be history.
'Our Way Or The Highway' mentality will be paved over with wingtips and communication .. even with our enemies.

Gov. Huckabee's foreign policy experience is better than publicized.
He's been to 30 - 35 foreign countries .. including Iraq and Afghanistan.

His compassion and love for people gives him the insight and passion to lead.
This truly will be the United States of America when Gov. Huckabee becomes President.
You might not believe like he does or agree with him at times .. But you can BELIEVE HIM. He's Authentic.

Gov. Huckabee is not mad .. Against everything. He hasn't built his platform by destroying others.
He's for reaching out .. helping others. He has some answers and can enact it. How Refreshing in a leader.
Not just Talkie Talkie .. but he's got the Walkie Walkie.

Oh I forgot to mention .. Several months ago .. Before it was cool to be a Huck fan ..
I emailed the Governor.
I asked him .. Gov .. When you become President .. Do you mind if I snooze in the Lincoln Bedroom ?
He replied .. David, my friend, If I win .. yes you may.

Tonite in Iowa .. We have Liftoff.
Just tune in. The Huckaboom will be Airborn .. all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania.
In the words/lyrics of BTO .. 'Baby You Ain't Seen Nothin Yet.'

Did Huck play bass guitar on that song ? He 's playing lead .. for sure now.

I'll be Blogging it here at www.TheMeck.com .
Thanks to the many who read THE MECK REPORT and Forward it to your friends.
WRITE ON. Count on it.

We re-visit this interv. just several days before Christmas Eve.
Be sure and share this show with a friend over the holidays.
Reach out and touch someone's life. Give them your T I M E.
The week after Christmas is the highest week of suicides all year.
--

"Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight."
Chorus - The Christmas Shoes
--

Meck Notes: Open the show with my close friend - BIG JIM Kearce.
Big Jim was very touched by the Paul Finebaum Interv. [ 12/19/06.]
'I've been hearing Paul for sometime. Paul is very clever .. and tight when he needed to be.'

'Never suspected there was the other side you showed us [in the interview.] '
' He's talented and very bright. The other side .. very warm and compassionate.
He has great love and respect for his parents. '

'That's why I was fond of Elvis. His love and respect for his parents.
Paul has that same soft side. A big reason for Paul's success is the discipline
and the love that came from his mother and father.' - Big Jim Kearce
--
Thoughts on Eddie Carswell and The Christmas Shoes.

'Mr. Carswell is a phenominal writer. '
'His song Christmas Shoes talks about people who are hurting .. reaching out ..
and the joy of giving.' - Jim Kearce

This amazing song reminds us of a man who was so wrapped up in chasing the American dream - money. And how a little boy taught him about lasting fortune.
The man is standing in line on Christmas Eve - last minute shopping.
Also standing in line, is a little boy, buying some shoes for his dying Mama.
He gets to the cashier and doesn't have enough money for his Mama's shoes.
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size.

The Christmas Shoes

It was almost Christmas time, there I stood in another line
Tryin' to buy that last gift or two, not really in the Christmas mood
Standing right in front of me was a little boy waiting anxiously
Pacing 'round like little boys do
And in his hands he held a pair of shoes

His clothes were worn and old, he was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldn't believe what I heard him say

Chorus:
Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight

He counted pennies for what seemed like years
Then the cashier said, "Son, there's not enough here"
He searched his pockets frantically
Then he turned and he looked at me
He said Mama made Christmas good at our house
Though most years she just did without
Tell me Sir, what am I going to do,
Somehow I've got to buy her these Christmas shoes

So I laid the money down, I just had to help him out
I'll never forget the look on his face when he said
Mama's gonna look so great

Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight

Bridge:
I knew I'd caught a glimpse of heaven's love
As he thanked me and ran out
I knew that God had sent that little boy
To remind me just what Christmas is all about

Repeat Chorus

T I M E spells L O V E
Written by Eddie Carswell and Michael O'Brien
Father's Day, Mother's Day, EVERY Day...

Listen @ www.TheMeck.com

T I M E spells L O V E

Throw me the ball Daddy
I've been waiting all day
I'm so glad you're home and we got some time
So Let's go out and play
Just me and you
It's my favorite thing to do
Daddy I'm tellin' the truth

Chorus
T I M E time
Spells L O V E love
And Love is the one thing
This world needs more of
The choice is up to you
So what will you do
With your T I M E Time
and your L O V E love

I'll never forget you Daddy
You taught me the game so well
It's taken me places I never dreamed
So many stories to tell
How the time has come and gone
And now I have a son of my own
And I'm making sure your memory lives on

Bridge
I've heard it said a time or two
This game of life can take from you
But I found out love isn't really love
Till you give it away

THE MECK REPORT: MIKE WEST MUST NOT BE RENEWED. 11/27/07

THE MECK REPORT: MIKE WEST MUST NOT BE RENEWED.

" As an activist .. My aim is to right the many wrongs by shining light on darkness ..
creating a social/and or political change."

www.TheMeck.com - posted Nov. 27, 2007 - 2:36a. - updated.
---
The Meck has been informed [by several sources] The City of Dothan's EEO Officer, David Thornton, has been making 'vulgar, sexually explicit remarks' regarding certain city employees.

It should not be breaking news that these certain employees happen to be male.
And these male employees are 'not at all happy' about these sexual messages.

Mike West hired / hand-picked Thornton to be EEO Officer for Dothan.
--
Why has City Manager Mike West not said anything about these
allegations regarding his EEO Officer ?

Why hasn't West put Thornton on administrative leave ?

Has West told the commissioners about Thornton ?

Is City Manager Mike West trying to protect him .. ?

Is this another debacle / embarrassment swept under the rug by West ?

Is West keeping this quiet until after his contract evaluation / vote ?
--
How can any city commissioner or mayor vote to renew Mike West's contract ..?

This is just one of many poor decisions / hirings West has made in the last several years.

Isn't it ironic .. The EEO Officer was hired by Mike West to protect employees' rights ..
And to investigate complaints of sexual harassment and hostile work environments.
Two of the very items he's charged with enforcing .. He's now accused of doing.

He Is an Equal Opportunity Offender.
No Doubt .. Thornton is a disgrace to our city and should have never been hired.
--
City Manager's Contract
The vote 'to renew' or 'not to renew' West's contract is Tues. morning - Nov. 27, 2007
at 10 in the city's regular commission meeting.

Mike West's current city manager's contract expires Oct. 31, 2008.

A 'vote to renew' means he gets a year added - A new 2 yr. deal.
That would supercede the current contract with a new contract.

If the vote is 'not to renew' .. The city can buy him out at 9 months.
The buyout is an option .. Not mandatory.
Mike West could work until Oct. 31, 2008 .. or find another job.

Note: If a vote is not taken .. His contract runs out Oct. 31, 08.

Mr. West's current contract requires that he be given a 'timely annual job performance evaluation.' [by Nov. 30].
Failure to do so results in the automatic extension of his contract.
His evaluations by the commissioners and mayor were said to be due - Mon. Nov. 26.
--
And re The Spin: 'The new commissioners haven't been in office
long enough to evaluate/vote on the city manager's performance.'
Please. That is not believable .. at best.

Everyone is aware that politicians vote/evaluate their first weeks / months in office. And have been for over 200 years.
It's foolish to believe that they or the elected body must consult anyone who has been voted out.
Help me Rhonda. All 4 Verses.

Flashback: Then City Comiss. Jason Rudd [who was toppled by John Craig in District 4 ]
was the driving force in bringing Mike West to Dothan as City Manager.
Key word: Then. City Comiss. John Craig is Now.
--
Should Dothan City Manager's Mike West Contract Be Renewed ?
70.3% voted NO in last week's WDHN online poll.

The City Explainer: Mike West Must Not Be Renewed.

Dothan Has Many Gifted Leaders .. No Doubt.
And Most Are More Qualified Than West To Be City Manager.
He's Not Exactly The Brightest Light On The Tree.

Dothan Can Do Much Better. We Must.

Thanks To The Many Who Read The Meck Report ..
And forward it to your friends.

The Meck interviews Bobby Cox.
This is our 9th [ weekly] show with Manager Bobby Cox.
You can listen to any of our previous shows - 24/7. [ Radio Show Page].

Bobby gives us a unique view and insight - as always.
Bobby talks about the current road trip.

Meck: You just left St. Louis .. I remember the 1996 NLCS at St. Lou
visiting in the dugout w/ you about 3p.[ down 3-1] and you told me ..
'We'll come back. We'll win this series.' [ and you did].
You never give up .. do you ?

Bobby: 'Every day is a new game. You need to play 'em like that. All out.'
'We'll do the best we can every single ballgame.'

Meck: You're in the stadium where you played the 97 NLCS [ vs the Marlins].
I was there and saw Denny Neagle pitch a complete game gem.
The Marlins went on to win the World Series as a wildcard.

Bobby: 'There's nothing wrong with winning that wildcard.
The important thing is get in the playoffs.
Look what St. Louis did last year when they got in with 83 wins or so and went on and won the WS.
It's really a crap shoot once you get there.
If the team's hot .. the breaks go your way for a real short period of time .. you can win it.'

'You don't have to have a great record to get in.' - BC

Meck: Can you believe Cincy is only 6 back ?

Bobby talks about the NL Central .. Reds and Cards.
Meck: The Red Sox got in as a wildcard and won the WS?
--
Meck: Skipper .. I believe the reason I like baseball so much .. it's a lot like life ..
ups and downs. You can't ever give up ?
Bobby: 'Our guys care about the game and winning.
We absolutely haven't given up.' 'We're in it.'

How's Andruw and Chipper doing ?

Meck: Have you ever seen [as a mgr] anything like what happen to Edgar Renteria
[re-injured in his first AB] and back on the DL ?
Bobby: 'He did everything possible that a player can on the practice field.'

'We went through that with [ Pitcher] remember John Thomson .. he had that finger.
We counted on him starting one of those games in the playoffs against Houston.
He lasted I think one batter and it blew up on him.
You're always careful .. but you never know.'

How's Chuck James ?
Bobby: 'He should start around the 1st of Sept.'

Meck: I heard Joe Simpson say [recently]: ' Jo Jo Reyes just
needs to Trust His Stuff.'
It seems like to me yesterday in St. Lou .. Jo Jo said to himself ..' I just belong here.'
He didn't walk anybody ?

Bobby: 'He didn't walk anybody.'
'He had a lot more strikes than balls thrown.' 'This kid's tough.'
'He doesn't scare. Just because he had walked some guys before ..
Doesn't mean he was nibbling at the plate. He was trying to throw strikes.'
'I like the kid a lot. He figures in big for next year.'

Meck: Manny Acosta has been great in mid relief .. [7.2 inns. - 0 ER]
Bobby: 'He's been absolutely perfection here.
Keeping the ball down extremely well.'
'Wait till you meet this kid, Meck.
You'll never meet a better kid than this guy.'
--
Meck: Ron Mahay [ 13 inns - only 3 earned runs]. He really throws strikes.
[ He reminds me of Graeme Lloyd - Yankees long reliever during the 90's].

Bobby: 'He's good against RH hitters too.' 'Not just a situation pitcher.'

Meck: How tough was it for you to let Wickman go?

Meck: Looks like Andruw's on pace to get 30 HR's and 110 RBI's ..
[as we discussed 6 weeks ago].
Bobby: 'Yeah .. He's gonna hit close to 30 and drive in right at 100 .. as he always does.'
'Batt. Avg. is down. His Defense is as Good as Ever. Basically .. It's the same Andruw.'

Meck: Aug. 27, 1996 .. [11 years ago today]
Denny Neagle [Pirates] pitched 8 strong innings vs. the Braves.
The next day the Braves acquired Neagle on the waiver wire for Jason Schmidt.
I keep hoping the Braves find a starting pitcher by Aug. 31..?

Bobby: 'It's not that the front office isn't trying. They are.'
'The fact is .. there's not a lot of quality ones out there like the Neagles.'
'There's so many teams that are in the wildcard chase.
Nobody's willing to give up any of their pitchers. '
'It's a very small market for that type of guy we're looking for.'
--
Meck: Michael Vick pled guilty today. Your thoughts ?
Bobby: 'I can't imagine anybody hanging dogs .. or drowning them .. or electrocuting them.'
I just can't comprehend that.'

'We're in the business [ my charity is] to fix dogs up and bring 'em back to life
and get 'em a home.' - BC

Meck: It only takes One Hundred Dollars to rescue and repair a dog ?
Bobby: 'We feed 'em for a good while .. and all the surgery that some require and medicine.
That's the number we came up with.'
'They're well worth it .. That's for sure.'

Meck: Sep. 9th is 'Bobby Cox Paws BeCause' - 'Bark in the Park' day.
Bobby: 'Yes we are .. at the ballpark. Part of that money goes to the Homeless Pets Foundation.
We're very proud of that. Every little dollar helps.'
